The Guadalupe County Historical Commission is passionate about community involvement and disseminating historical information about Guadalupe County. The recognition of our efforts is greatly appreciated. Below are some of the ways in which the GCHC has been recognized for community involvement.
In order to help assist in the protection and preservation of historical cemetery sites, the Guadalupe County Historical Commission (GCHC) took on the task of identifying, locating, photographing and documenting every cemetery within a five mile radius of the present day county line. Past inventory efforts have more than tripled since this project was initiated. GCHC along with Kiva Consulting developed a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) database containing GPS coordinates of each site, along with photographs, physical addresses and directions all integrated with digital maps utilizing Google Earth imagery. Our goal was to disseminate accurate records to the public so that we can continue to preserve the integrity of these cemeteries while aiding the planning of future development.
GCHC has also inventoried 282 historical places, markers & schools. We appreciate dedicated efforts of our Historical Commission members to locate, document and photograph these unique treasures of our county.
